In a significant move to bolster disaster relief efforts across the United States, Honda has announced its formal participation in the American Red Cross’s Annual Disaster Giving Program. This initiative, which kicked off on April 1, 2025, enables the nonprofit organization to swiftly respond to over 65,000 disasters that occur nationwide each year, ensuring those affected receive timely assistance.
Honda, a longstanding supporter of the Red Cross, has a rich history of aiding communities in the aftermath of disasters. For more than three decades, the company has provided critical support following events such as the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and Hurricane Katrina. Earlier this year, Honda’s contributions played a vital role in assisting Red Cross relief efforts for communities impacted by devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, where the company has been an integral part of the local community for over 60 years. In addition, Honda partnered with the Red Cross and other organizations to aid recovery efforts after tornadoes struck near its manufacturing plants in Ohio and in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
Jennifer Thomas, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., expressed pride in the company’s enhanced commitment to disaster recovery efforts. “Through the Annual Disaster Giving Program, we will strengthen the ability of the Red Cross to provide immediate support when it is needed in communities across America, where Honda associates, customers, dealers, and suppliers live and work,” she stated.
The Red Cross addresses an emergency every eight minutes on average, catering to a variety of needs from small house fires to large-scale natural disasters. The organization provides vital services including clean water, safe shelter, and hot meals to those in need. Notably, about 90% of Red Cross workers are volunteers, underscoring the community-driven aspect of their mission.
Cliff Holtz, president and CEO of the American Red Cross, highlighted the importance of partnerships like Honda’s in the fight against increasing disaster occurrences. “I’m inspired by forward-thinking Annual Disaster Giving Program members like Honda that make it possible for us to support those in need at a moment’s notice,” he remarked. “Families are relying on the Red Cross more than ever as disasters become more frequent and intense, and generous partners like Honda help us prepare for the worst and provide relief when the unthinkable happens.”
As disasters become more frequent and severe, Honda’s commitment to the American Red Cross underscores its dedication to the safety and well-being of communities across the nation.
