James Pratt’s feature film, Malibu Crush, is the movie that we all need right now.
What began as a passion project for Pratt is now complete, with a release set for summer 2021 and pre-screenings already held at Fox Studios this year.
The comedy feature film follows two best friends from Pasadena, California, who pose as highly acclaimed film school students. Their goal? To proclaim their undying love for an ex-girlfriend living in Sydney, Australia; getting into hilarious hijinks along the way.
“We were really able to highlight the beauty of Sydney as well,” says Pratt, “especially Bondi Beach. We were able to shoot in stunning locations. I was very excited to showcase both Los Angeles and Bondi Beach in the same script, both locations I have family from and so from a personal aspect I really wanted to showcase the feel and true experience of someone in the USA coming out to Bondi Beach for the first time.”
The film features acclaimed actors with a theatre background, such as Scott E. Miller, Demitra Sealy, and Sarah Louise Collidge. And the talent doesn’t stop there; we also are blessed with appearances from Dan Musial, Billy White , Brittany Hockley, Bella Valentini, Caleb Duncan and more.
The film is one of few feature films that was shot in Los Angeles and Australia during the pandemic It also features Australian, American, Canadian, Chinese, Polish, and Czech actors, and was edited by up and coming Sydney based editor Brianna Cook. Pratt wrote, directed, and starred in the film, and let me know how elated he is for its release to audiences in our recent interview.
“It was really nice doing a comedy film.” Pratt explains, “Something fun, simple, and stupid that people can laugh at. It’s nice timing [for the release of the film]; we all need a laugh right now, for sure.”
