Carla Winton is one of those people – with a following of over 40,000 on Instagram alone, Winston has been featured on international news platforms like The Washington Mail for her tips and tricks on living a healthier and active lifestyle.

Winston grew up playing many sports, and physical activity played a huge part in her life. She had been part of many sport teams and activities, and that continued well into adulthood until she found herself busy with other commitments on a regular basis.

Carla Winston has fond memories of the days she would compete in sports: “I was a runner, I ran a lot, from the earliest time I can remember, up until I started having children,”

She initially stopped running because of an injury. She was once experiencing a ton of momentum and continued progressing in her fitness goals, but that all stopped when she needed to take some time to recover

“I’ve always been a long-distance runner. I used to just run and just run and run and run. I felt like I was Forrest Gump. But it got to a point where my knees hurt and I had to have knee surgery that stopped me and slowed me down.”

Carla Winston was so athletic in her youth that she even tried out for the boys football team with a friend of hers.

“It turns out we were actually faster than the guys there,” says Winston.

“We were the only two girls that actually made the guys football team and it was a tackle football team We had shoulder pads, helmets – the whole nine yards.”

“We did very very well,” says Winston.

Winston says her and her friend did so well that they were in the newspaper for being the only two girls that went for the football team and actually made it. On top of that, Winston was also a swimmer, and did bowling too.

Winston recalls being so good at bowling and always getting a strike, so it never felt like a real challenge, even though she almost went pro.

Winston explains all this to demonstrate that no matter how active you are, or how naturally athletic, it’s always important to exercise consistently and take care of your health.

Without consistent exercise and care, even the best athletes will begin to experience adverse effects.

Now, Winston is always doing things with her family.

“I have a very big family. I have four foster kids, two biological kids, two grandkids, a husband and myself – so we’re always doing things whether we’re on a boat, tubing or skiing.”

On top of this, Winston’s family gets up between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. every morning.

While you don’t have to initially become high performance, it’s important to take the necessary steps towards building a healthier and more active lifestyle.
