Roger Sam Kurian is improving the lives of people around him by sharing career advice on digital platforms. From helping people start successful careers in the IT industry, to lending advice about how to pick up the soft skills to succeed in their careers, Kurian feels fulfilled giving back to his community.
Roger Kurian believes that above all else, volunteering and giving back to the community brings the highest level of fulfillment and satisfaction. Helping others and volunteering allowed Roger Kurian to overcome personal challenges, obstacles and hardships throughout his life. He actively encourages others to give back to their communities as well.
When Kurian was experiencing struggles of his own, he recalled feeling the urgent need to do something positive for the people around him.
“I wanted to contribute anything I could,” says Kurian.
That was when Kurian decided to volunteer at the Houston Food Bank. It was a decision that would set him up for healing and success, and he looks back on his time there with fond memories.
While working at the Houston Food Bank, Roger Kurian met somebody that changed his perspective on volunteering forever. He recalls vividly an elderly woman packaging food for people in need.
“She was so enthusiastic,” says Kurian. “She was so happy to contribute to society, and so fulfilled.”
After noticing how enthusiastic she was, Roger decided to volunteer more of his time. He also realized that as a society, we should seek more fulfillment helping others. There are plenty of people in need, and volunteering is a great way to feel that you are giving back to society.
“I had to keep up to work as fast as her,” Kurian recalls with a smile on his face.
Roger Kurian says volunteering was a kind of therapy for him. It made him feel at peace, and it made him considerate of other people’s needs. Not only was instrumental into molding him into the person he is today, but it also showed him about the level of fulfillment and satisfaction that can be derived from helping others.
Now, Kurian is heavily invested into lending his time to others and giving back whenever he can. Whether it’s lending career advice for free, or giving time to his local church, Roger Kurian is determined to make the world a better place through his actions.
These events have also inspired him to share these lessons with his children so that they can grow up to help foster better communities.
By volunteering, Roger Kurian was able to reach a place of happiness and satisfaction in his own life. He was awarded for his services the Bronze President’s Volunteer Service Award for all the work that he undertook.
“Volunteering for me is a sort of getaway,” says Kurian.
“I enjoyed doing multiple shifts, and this is what culminated in me receiving the award.”
When he’s not at work, Roger Kurian donates his time to various charitable organizations and causes. He also continues to serve his family and the community around him.
