New York solar energy developer Plankton Energy energized a 600kW rooftop solar system for New Jersey-based Sportika in late 2022. The rooftop solar system will supply 100% of the facility’s electricity needs annually.
The system will generate approximately 800,000 kWh of solar power annually, allowing Sportika to fully meet their electricity needs. Over the lifetime of system, Sportika will save over $1.3 million on electricity and avoid over 3,580 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
“As a premier indoor sports and recreation facility, Sportika was intent on joining the clean energy movement, but it was an endeavor worthy of holding out for the right partner. Plankton Energy’s dedication to making clean energy attainable for small businesses and community-based organizations made them the right choice for us. Our facility was built for the youth and families we serve, and our commitment to environmental sustainability is just another way we continue to invest in our community,” said Frances Ramirez, Director of Finance and Administration at Sportika.
“We’re thrilled to get this system operating and see Sportika begin to realize significant energy savings and run on 100% solar power,” said Dan Giuffrida, CEO of Plankton Energy.
The success of this project was made possible by New Jersey’s Solar Transition Incentive Program. Thanks to new financial incentives designed to facilitate widespread deployment of clean energy, developers like Plankton Energy can help businesses like Sportika experience the social, environmental, and economic benefits from solar for years to come.
