Heritage Auctions has announced that Laura Paterson has joined its Photographs Department as Consignment Director, based at Heritage’s New York City Park Avenue location. Paterson brings three decades of experience in photography sales, having spent 20 years at Christie’s before being appointed Director of the Photography departments at Bonhams and Hindman Auctions. Her main area of interest is Western Photography, with a particular focus on her extensive knowledge of the work of Edward S. Curtis and Ansel Adams.
“We’re thrilled to add Laura to the team,” says Ed Beardsley, Heritage’s Vice President and Managing Director of Fine & Decorative Arts. “Coupled with being offered more collections of all sizes, we’ve seen increased interest in both fine art and historical photographs. Laura’s knowledge and expertise will help us keep up with demand.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Laura to the Heritage team as a new member of our Photographs Department,” says Nigel Russell, Heritage’s Director of Photographs. “Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and a profound passion for photography. Her expertise spans the photographic world, from historical processes to contemporary works, which makes her an invaluable asset to our department. Laura’s insights and dedication will enhance our offerings and provide our clients with exceptional service and guidance.”
Paterson, who is British-American, holds a degree in Art History from the University of Edinburgh. In her role at Heritage, Paterson will assist Russell in sourcing fine art photography for the auction house’s sales in this category.
“I’m honored to join Heritage’s Fine Art Department and bring my experience to the team,” says Paterson. “I look forward to working toward the shared goal of finding incredible works to bring to auction, and I look forward to working with Heritage’s clients.”
