Michalis Bass is an Atlanta-based singer, songwriter, and music producer whose elegant and refined R&B-meets-Soul sound has become synonymous with sensuality and beautifully curated, metaphorical lyricism. His latest single, entitled ‘Math’, perfectly encapsulates this and more. Produced by Michalis and Mixtape Seoul and mixed by Calvin Durand, the track explores how math can correspond to true feelings and even act as an emotional outlet. Smooth, soulful, and abundant with emotion, the down-tempo grooves and big-time sensuality of ‘Math’ make for an alleviating listening experience in every way possible. “When I wrote this song, I was in a sad space, I was lonely, confused, lost, and devastated. I felt on my own, misunderstood, and helpless, but when I sang the song, I was smiling with tears. I was happy to understand myself, my worth, and why I do what I do”. – Michalis Bass.
A singer, songwriter, and producer whose polished craft pivots around the sensual stylings of R&B Soul, Atlanta-based artist Michalis Bass knew from his very first performance that a life oscillating around music was always meant for him.
Citing influences from influential figures such as Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Sam Smith, and Rihanna, Michalis Bass’ sound is defined by its abundance of soul, sensuality, and the dynamism of his eclectic vocal palette. With each and every production fueled by emotion, Michalis’ lyricism is both metaphorical and deeply relatable, while his words paint musical stories that are relationship-centric, ensuring that any listener can connect with the themes of his music.
Although now residing in Atlanta Georgia, Michalis Bass was originally born in Heidelberg, Germany, before moving to South Carolina at the age of four and spending the majority of his life in the Palmetto State. For the duration of this time, his goal was always to be a mathematician, but it was always the idea of becoming a singer that was his dream. At the age of seventeen, he impressively lost 50lbs, turned his life around and decided to pursue his dreams.
After receiving a scholarship from the distinguished Ericka Deabreu, and being offered the chance to perform at an expo in Dallas, it was finally Michalis’ time to shine. Choosing to perform a cover of John Legend’s iconic ‘All Of Me’, a standing ovation and encore proceeded, with members of the audience even asking for his autograph after the show. It was at this point that Michalis knew he had chosen the right path.
It was also around this time when Michalis began to venture into the world of writing music. With his perfectionist nature becoming clear, he was always striving to create music that honored his love for the art form. However, it was at Soul Asylum Studios that Michalis met the perfect engineer in the form of Calvin Durand, with the pair’s shared passion for music leading to the pair working side by side for the creation of all of Michalis’ music.
Through his triumphs, trials, and tribulations, Michalis has always viewed his life experiences as a way to discover himself. However, throughout every circumstance he found himself in, music was consistently the one mainstay that not only acted as his outlet but presented itself as Michalis’ true life calling.
