In today’s fast-paced, increasingly-automatized economy, it seems increasingly difficult to find law firms that strive to build connections with their clients beyond transactional operations. In the quest for efficiencies and maximum profits, many law firms overlook the human component and social role of the profession.

Elizabeth A. Douglas, Esq.  the founder and CEO of the family law firm Douglas Family Law Group, PLLC, advocates for the need to re-humanize the legal industry. In her role as a family lawyer, Douglas understands that her work extends beyond just the courtroom. She believes that for family lawyers, as well as for lawyers in other practice areas, to provide the best representation for their clients, a strong sense of service is essential.

“I opened my firm so I could connect with people and use my knowledge and skills in the law to help people in a personal manner,” Douglas explained.

In a recent interview, Douglas drew from her years of experience as a family lawyer to reflect on the importance of law firms placing clients at the center of their mission. Particularly, she discussed how critical this human component is in the family law industry.

Prior to opening Douglas Family Law Group,PLLC,  Douglas worked several years in Civil Litigation for multiple large defense firms. But, she realized that in the corporate world, she was missing the opportunity to build personal connections with clients.

“What attracted me to family law was a desire to build a personal connection with my clients,” Douglas said. “I wanted to use my knowledge in the courtroom to help people during their divorce, a difficult situation that, for many people, feels like the end of their lives.”

As Douglas explains, family law involves more than just the legal aspects of a case; it involves dealing with people’s hearts, relationships, children, and finances. Douglas recognizes the importance of building a personal connection with her clients to better understand their needs and provide them with the best representation.

“My experience in [family law] helps me to be able to listen to my clients and their needs and provide them with the next steps for them to be able to thrive,” Douglas added.

Douglas talks about the culture and values of her practice as a model that other law firm owners may follow to make their firms client-centric organizations.

At her firm, Douglas stresses to her team the need to provide compassionate yet aggressive legal representation to the families they serve in New York and Connecticut. For Douglas, it is critical to take the time to understand each client’s specific case at a deeper personal level to develop the plan of action that is best for them and their family. Thus, Douglas Family Law Group, PLLC promises to provide each client with tailored legal representation.

“We understand the respect that each family deserves, and as a firm, we are committed to ensuring that they receive the best possible representation,” said Douglas.

Douglas’ commitment to delivering excellence for its clients has paid out in helping her firm build a strong reputation in New York and Connecticut. To this day, Douglas Family Law Group, PLLC  has assisted thousands  of clients, guiding them through divorce and child custody cases. This law firm is today known for its dedication to clients and their families.

Douglas recognizes that the legal profession is about more than winning cases and getting profits. She advocates for the need to build a more humanized family law industry in which clients’ needs are at the core of law firms’ missions. As Douglas explains, family law cases can be emotionally and financially draining. Thus, lawyers must strive to build a more personal connection with clients to ensure they receive the best possible representation.

“I believe that service is at the heart of what we do as lawyers,” concluded Douglas.

[Elizabeth A. Douglas and her team at Douglas Family Law Group, PLLC are dedicated to providing the highest level of legal representation while also building personal connections with their clients. They understand that family law cases can be overwhelming and stressful, which is why they are committed to making the process as smooth as possible.
